The Elliot Lake Mall Collapsed and there is a pending Class Action Lawsuit and Investigation , as some residents lost their lives. Presently the shopping in Elliot Lake is in dissaray as without the mall there is no place to really shop. The grocery store brought in a few racks of clothing and plans are under way to rebuild a mall in the future.
The City invited NWMO to the area with the prospect of being selected as a potential Nuclear Waste Management location. This would diversify and give a boost to the economy.
I lived most of my life in Elliot Lake and it is in a wonderful scenic area with many freshwater lakes . To anyone moving from a large city I would recommend that you do your homework and look at all the aspects of what Elliot Lake offers and what it does not offer.
We have a hospital ,a hotel, a grocery store, a gas station and a Canadian Tire with gas pumps...
Our services can be rated as Ok or Outrageous, getting charged $200 dollars to have a slow leak fixed
sort of is a shocker when you are told after fact they had to grind the rims.The hardware store being out of 2"inch clamps , and not being to get tires for my quad from the dealer is just the way things happen....
Cottages lots open doors to a variety of issues that may change a city slickers dream to one hell of a lot of unexpected hurdles to overcome.
Some people came some left and some are stuck here and some just love it here come hell or high water.. The question is are you coming with Open eyes or are you just Chasing a Dream ?
